AFSPA should be removed

I am not a journalist, I am not a army men, neither I am citizen of one of the states where AFSPA has been imposed. So, there is no reason why comment should be taken seriously and I may not have enough information to formulate a right opinion in this regard. I cite following reasons for my opinion

Good will of citizens is the most important requirement for a counter insurgency operation.

It's true that Army men will have their life endangered on the removal of AFSPA. I am not an expert strategist in counter insurgency operations but there should be some way out of this problem. For example, 50% of the army personals appointed in an an area can be appointed from the local population. So that there is a mutual feeling of sympathy among the army men and the local population. Secondly, hiring local population means that you are creating employment. Though the counter point may be that this way, the locals are getting weapons and they may support insurgent forces. But there is no way out. When trust is broken, no side wants to trust the other; to regain trust one has to make the first move. If India treats Kashmir like any other state and is able to provide education and employment to the citizens, I don't think any anti-social element will be able take advantage of the "gaps" to incite insurgency.

Why I hate chat engines?

I'm not a multi-tasking person.
I can chat to only one person at a time.
Also, when I wait for other person to respond, I do nothing at that time.

• Time required to pop popcorns at a room temperature of 50 C with 5 g of oil:

And we haven't considered heat lost to surroundings in 82 minutes.

Thoughts vs actions

I believe that its a persons actions that define him (or her), rather than his thoughts.

There are many examples that oppose this belief, but most of them assume that thoughts will eventually effect the person's action. For the time being let's focus on the example that forced me to write this blog.

Sometimes I make friends, after considering the purpose that that friendship is going to solve. I had a discussion regarding this with one of my close friends and he was almost devastated by the thought. "How can you do this? ... this is so mean"

Well, consider this blog my defense or whatever.

I believe, once you make someone a friend on purpose, you have not violated any morals. The simple reason: you have done the same actions that you would have done if you would have tried to make him a friend without any purpose.

However, the true test begins when your purpose is solved and the friend needs you. At this time if you try to help your friend with the same ability as you would have helped any other friend, the you are doing good by my moral standards.


PS: Beware, I do make friends just to expand my network, especially among girls.

Purpose of life

Note: This is a 143 line conversation that happenned on Vikas Chauhan's facebook wall. I have kept this as archive, though some of you may find it interesting. I agree, that the derivation of conclusion is based on certain assumptions and can be questioned at certain points. However, I strongly believe that the conclusion is quite intuitive and can be proved using similar sequence of arguments as followed in the conversation.

What is the purpose of life ? Can science answer that question or we have to go to religion to answer this ?
